Re-launch of the IPR Helpdesk Service

On 4 July 2002, the activities of the newly re-launched IPR Helpdesk service were launched in Brussels. New features added since the end of the pilot phase in 2001, including a new web site structure and helpline were also highlighted.

In addition, the Community diffusion and protection rules in international research projects under the Sixth Framework programme for research (FP6), which are currently under discussion, were outlined. Other projects participating in the Innovation and SMEs programme also presented their activities, including CORDIS, the Innovation Relay Centres network and the Gate2Growth Helpdesk.

Eurochambres (Association of European chambers of commerce and industry), UNICE (Union of industrial and employers' confederations of Europe), UEAPME (European association of craft, small and medium-sized enterprises) and the CJBB (Young bar association of Brussels) supported the event.

The IPR Helpdesk has been run by the University of Alicante, Spain, since the beginning of 2002. The service boasts several changes from the previous version, including a new website structure and helpline. It is designed to help contractors in Community-funded research projects with intellectual property protection issues. Some of the main areas to be developed will be the service's representative office, its dissemination action, its info-service and the website and helpline.
