Lutz Hildebrandt is a senior-professor of marketing and was the director of the Institute for Marketing of the School of Business and Economics at the Humboldt University of Berlin until 2012. He is also a honorary professor at the University of Vienna and Batten fellow of the Darden School at the University of Virginia. He also was visiting professor/scholar at the Institute of Higher Studies in Vienna; at the University of California, Los Angeles; at the Harvard Business School in Boston; at the University of Otago in Dunedin, New Zealand; and at the Baltic Federal Immanuel Kant University, Kaliningrad.
He has published numerous articles in Journals like OR-Spectrum, International Journal of Research in Marketing, Journal of Economic Psychology, Marketing Letters, Journal of Business Research, Journal of Retailing and Consumer Services, Schmalenbachs Business Review, Journal of Business Economics and Computational Statistics. Besides that he was the editor of the German journal Marketing JRM (2007 – 2008).
In the years 2000 – 2004 he was the vice-president and president of the European Marketing Academy (EMAC). From 1996 to 1997 he acted as the chairman of the EMAC Doctoral Colloquium. At Humboldt University he held the positions of the dean between 2000 and 2002 and dean of research between 2009 and 2011. In addition he had the position of the spokesmen of the collaborative Research Center on Risk between 2007 – 2009, which was funded by the German Science Foundation (DFG).
